Te Mato I Pao Ia Mai Au - (my heritage is my rock) - In 1823 the paramount chief of the district of Puaikura on the island of Rarotonga by the name of Tinomana Enua , challenged the missionary Papehia by saying "Te akara nei au ki Maungaroa, te mato I pao ia mai au" - I am looking upon Mt Maungaroa, my heritage is my foundation.

The chief expressed his concern for his people, as he was unsure of the invaders that has landed on the shores of Rarotonga.
